Connecting Linksys Router To Comcast Cable Modem

The Comcast modem allows you to connect only one device to the internet when connected directly. With the help of a router, you can connect up to four devices via an Ethernet connection. You can also connect more devices wirelessly using a Linksys router. If you have just got your Linksys router, carry out the steps that are given below for connecting Linksys router to Comcast cable modem.

  • Plug an Ethernet cable to the Comcast modem.
  • Now, plug in the other end of the Ethernet cable to the Internet or WAN port of the Linksys router.
  • Now, take another Ethernet cable and use it to connect the router and your computer for connecting Linksys router to Comcast cable modem.
  • Press the Windows and R buttons together to launch the Run dialog box.
  • Type cmd in the search section and click on the OK button.
  • Now, type ipconfig in the Command Prompt window and hit the Enter key.
  • Locate the IP address of the router in the Default Gateway section.
  • Launch a browser on your computer and enter the IP address of the Linksys router in the address bar.
  • The default username of the Linksys router is admin and the password is also admin.
  • Enter the login credentials correctly and click on the OK button for connecting Linksys router to Comcast cable modem.
  • When you are on the Linksys router’s setup page, click on the drop-down arrow next to the Internet Connection type. Then, choose the Automatic Configuration option --- DHCP option --- from the displayed list.

  • Select the Enable option by clicking on the radio button in the DHCP server section.
  • You can configure other router settings if required.
  • If you want to change the default login or network credentials, change it by following the on-screen instruction.
  • Once you have made all the changes for connecting Linksys router to Comcast cable modem, click on the Save Settings button to finish the Linksys router setup.
