MAC address is the physical address of the network adapter of a device connected to the network. You can access the MAC filtering option of the router and block the device from using the network. For that, you need to know the MAC Address of the device. The following steps would help you to know how to block MAC address in Dlink router.

Step-1: Know the MAC address

For Windows:

  • On the desktop, search for “cmd” using the search bar and select the top result.
  • When the Command Prompt window opens up, run the command “ipconfig /all” to find the MAC Address of the computer.

For macOS:

  • Click the Apple menu at the top, select System Preference, and choose Network.
  • Select the Wi-Fi menu and note down the MAC address.

Step-2: Access the router page

  • Launch a browser on your system and enter the router’s IP address to visit the router’s login page.
  • On the login page, type the username and password and sign in to the router setup page.
  • Next, click the Advanced tab and then select Network Filter from the left side panel.
  • Under MAC Filtering Rules, click the drop-down menu and select Turn MAC Filtering ON.
  • Type the MAC Address of the device you want to block and click the Save Settings button.
  • You can add many devices (MAC Addresses) under MAC Filtering Rules and block them from connecting your Wi-Fi network.

Do not know the MAC Address?

  • If you do not know the MAC Address of a device, let it connect to the router’s network.
  • On the router’s configuration page, go to the Advanced section and choose Network Filter.
  • Find the device name in the DHCP Client List and then click the arrow symbol to copy its MAC Address.
