Step 1

Check if you have established a connection between the Netgear router and your Mac computer. And change Netgear router password on Mac.

Step 2 - Find the IP address of the Netgear router

  • Mac OS X 10.5 and later - Navigate to the Apple logo at the top-left corner of the screen and click the System Preferences option.
  • Select the Network option from the View menu.
  • The Network Preferences dialog window will appear on the screen.
  • Select your network port, navigate to the Status section, and the router’s IP address can be seen in the IP Address field.

Step 3 - Access the web-based setup page of the Netgear router

  • Open a web browser on the Mac computer that is connected to the Netgear router.
  • Enter the IP address of the router in the address column.

  • This will open the router’s web-based setup page on the screen.

Default information:

  • IP Address - 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1
  • User name - admin
  • Password - password

Step 4 - Change the admin password of the Netgear router

  • Click the Advanced tab and select the Administration option followed by the Set Password option. Here, you can change Netgear router password on Mac.
  • Type the existing admin password.
  • Create a new admin password and confirm the same by retyping it.
  • Note: If you forgot the admin password, you could recover it easily if you have turned on the Enable Password Recovery option.

  • Click the Wireless tab.
  • Enter the new network name in the Name (SSID) field.
  • Type the new Wi-Fi password in the Password (Network Key) field and then click Apply.
