How To Flash Linksys Router

Generally, routers have firmware for functioning in the directed way or following user commands. The firmware controls the router actions, features, and service settings. The router’s firmware needs to be updated with time to maintain the router features new and also to support the advanced device, which is connecting to the router. Flashing a router is changing the firmware of the router, which is on the router’s flash memory. Use the following steps to flash a Linksys router safely;

Before starting to flash the router, connect the router and the computer to the same network through a wired or wireless network connection.

Download the firmware package:

  • Know which Linksys router model you are using, and then open the web browser on your computer.
  • Visit the Linksys official website and click open the Get Linksys Support link.
  • Find your Linksys router model and enter the support page of the Linksys router.
  • A list of firmware versions are available on the page, click the version you have to download.
  • Then, confirm the download of the firmware version by clicking OK.
  • After that, save the firmware file to a safe location on the system.
How To Flash Linksys Router

Router firmware upgrade:

  • On the browser window, open another tab and enter the Linksys router’s IP address to enter the router login page.
  • Then, type the router User name and Password to login to the router’s configuration page.
  • Now, click on the Administrator tab and then select the Firmware Upgrade menu.
  • On the Linksys page, select the Browse button to search for the firmware file on the computer.
  • Find the firmware and select the firmware file (mini_generic) in the Choose File to Upload window. Click Open.
  • Read the warning instruction that is given under the Firmware Upgrade, and then click the Upgrade button to start firmware upgrading.
  • Wait until the upgrade is complete and when the ‘Upgrade is successful’ message appears on the screen, click Continue.
  • Next, the system server prompts you to enter the router User name and Password to run the firmware on the router.

Features installation:

  • Again, enter the Administrator tab, go to the Firmware Upgrade panel, and click Browse.
  • Now, select the features file (std_generic), which you have saved on the system.
  • In the After flashing, reset to field, select the Reset to default settings option from the drop-down menu.
  • Finally, click the Upgrade button and wait till the standard router features are installed.
  • Once the installation is complete, the router unit starts to reboot, after that see if the firmware is updated.
  • Then, go on to change the Basic and Advanced settings of the Linksys router according to your requirements.
