Based on your connection type, the physical setup and the router installation steps would vary. Let’s see the router’s physical setup.
Step 1: Physical setup
First, verify whether your internet connection is active.
Next, get an Ethernet cable.
Connect your modem to the Linksys router using the Ethernet cable.
Using another Ethernet cable, connect your computer to the router.
Now, turn on the router, modem, and your computer.
Check if the internet LED and other LEDs on the router’s control panel are blinking.
If yes, continue with the installation.

Step 2: Configuring the router settings
Method 1: Using the Linksys Connect software
Insert the Linksys Connect software CD into your computer.
Once the CD is recognized by your computer, a pop-up dialog box will appear on the screen.
Select Set up your Linksys Router.
Look for the Wi-Fi icon on the My Computer or Computer window and double-click it.
Now, the router installation will be initiated.
Perform the on-screen instructions to complete the router setup process.
Method 2: Manually configuring the router settings
Access the router’s Advanced settings section using either the Linksys Connect software or a web browser.
Using Linksys Connect: In the Linksys Connect software, navigate to the Router Settings section and click Change. Select the Advanced settings option.
Using a web browser: Open a web browser and type 192.168.1.1. Type your Linksys router credentials in the corresponding field and click OK.

Cable internet connection
Open a web browser on your computer that is connected to the Linksys router.
Type your router’s IP address in the search box.
In the Login dialog box, enter your router’s credentials in the corresponding fields.
Once you have signed in, click the Setup tab followed by the MAC Address Clone sub-tab.
Enable the MAC Address Clone option by clicking the radio button beside Enabled.
Click the Clone My PC’s MAC button followed by Save.
Sign in to your Linksys router’s web access page.
From the Setup tab, navigate to the Internet Connection Type sub-tab.
Choose the PPPoE or Automatic Configuration-DHCP option from the drop-down menu.
Now, if you have selected PPPoE, then enter your PPPoE credentials in the corresponding fields and click Save. Go to the Status tab and click the Connect button beside the Login Status option.
Similarly, if you have chosen the Automatic Configuration-DHCP option, modify the IP address displayed on the screen. In the IP Address field, change the value of the 3rd box and click Save.
Open CMD on your computer. Type ipconfig /release and tap Enter. Now, you can see an IP address displayed on the screen. Note it down and use it the next time you access the router’s web access page.
Connect your Linksys router to the modem using an Ethernet cable to complete the setup.
On your Linksys router’s web access page, go to the Setup tab.
Under the Internet Setup section, choose the Static IP option from the drop-down menu.
After selecting it, enter your ISP’s IP address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, and DNS details in the corresponding fields.
