How To Linksys Router Boost Signal Strength?

Linksys router boost signal strength

Most of us might have encountered a low signal strength issue while connected to a WiFi. The six major factors causing this issue are distance, physical obstructions, wireless interfaces, transmit rate of the wireless router, outdated firmware, and power outage. Now, let’s have a look at the steps that would measure the Linksys router boost signal strength.

Distance:

  • We all know that if a device is located far away from the router, then the signal strength would be low. If your device is running on 2.4 GHz, then it can detect the signal only when it is within 100 to 150 feet (30 to 46 meters) from the router. If it is beyond this range, then get closer to the Linksys router boost signal strength.

Physical obstructions:

  • Another reason for a slow network would be the physical obstructions between the router and the WiFi device. Check for obstructions such as mirrors, glasses, metal objects, thick walls, and ceilings in between your device and the Linksys router.
  • If so, you have to either remove the obstructions. If it is not possible, then you have to look for an alternate solution.
  • In this scenario, you can try to extend the network range using a Linksys range extender or Powerline. and check Linksys router boost signal strength.

Wireless Interferences:

  • The sources of interference are neighboring wireless networks, microwave oven, 2.4 GHz cordless telephones, Bluetooth devices, and wireless baby monitors.
  • To solve this problem, change your Linksys router’s SSID and the channel width.
  • By default, the channel width of the Linksys router is set to Auto.
  • If you encounter the observer wireless interference while the channel width is set to Auto, then use other preferred non-overlapping channels like 1, 6, 9, and 11.
  • Use the Wireless-N network adapter to select the 40 MHz channel width for your 2.4 GHz network. You can select this channel only if you are in a less crowded location.

Outdated firmware:

  • If your Linksys router’s firmware is outdated, then there is a chance for a low signal strength issue so you have to check the Linksys router boost signal strength.
  • Check if there is a firmware update available for your router.
  • If yes, update the firmware and then check the signal strength.

Power outage:

  • Check if your router encounters the power outage issue.
  • If yes, power cycle your Linksys router by following the instructions given below.
  • Unplug the power cable from your router.
  • Wait for 10 seconds.
  • After that, reconnect the power cable into the router and turn it ON.
  • Now, check your Linksys router’s signal strength.

Transmit rate on the wireless router:

Usually, the transmit depends on the speed of your wireless router. The Linksys router’s transmit rate is set to Auto by default. The Linksys router manufacturer does not recommend changing the transmit rate. Contact us to get remote assistance in solving the Linksys router boost signal strength problem.
