Linksys Router DHCP Setup

If you ever want to know the basic idea of what a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server is, let me explain more simply without complicating the context. The DHCP is simply a network server that generally helps in assigning IP addresses, default gateways, and many other such parameters to different devices. Every router that is coming out today has a DHCP setting, and Linksys router DHCP setup is quite simple. Any device getting connected to a network will be assigned a dynamic IP address by the router.

Follow the steps as described below to set up DHCP in your Linksys router.

  • Open the default browser on your Windows or Mac computer.
  • Enter the router’s IP address in the address bar and press the Enter button.
  • On the next page, you will be prompted to enter the default username and password to gain access to the Linksys router settings.
  • The default login credentials are given below:
  • Username- admin
  • Password- admin
  • Once the Linksys router page opens, click the Connectivity tab on the left pane of the router page.
  • Click the Local Network tab from the Connectivity section.
  • You will now see two options: Router Details and DHCP server.
  • In the DHCP server section, click the checkbox near Enabled.
  • You will see a list of fields in which you can make changes.
  • Start IP address: set the desired IP address (range 1.100 to 1.149).
  • Maximum number of users: You can set the number of users from 1-155.
  • You can also set the lease time to a desired number of minutes for Linksys router DHCP setup.

You can also set for a DHCP reservation. A reservation will set a permanent IP address to a particular connected device.

  • Click the DHCP reservation option on the DHCP page.
  • You will now see a list of devices connected to the Linksys router.
  • Select the device you want to add to the DHCP reservation list by clicking the checkbox under the Select field and click the Add DHCP Reservation button.
  • Once you have added the device to the DHCP reservation, click OK to save the changes for Linksys router DHCP setup.
