You can set up your Linksys router in two different ways.
Generally, a Setup CD is provided along with the router during the purchase.
The CD will automatically detect your internet connection and perform the setup.
All you have to do is, connect your Linksys router to an active computer (the computer should be connected to the Internet).
Insert the CD into your computer and perform the on-screen instructions to complete the Linksys WRT310N router setup.
Make sure to configure the router settings during the setup.
In case the router setup fails using the setup CD, then you need to set up the router manually.
Step 1: Physical setup
Connect your Linksys WRT310N router to the computer using an Ethernet cable.
Make sure that you have connected your computer to the Internet.
Now, turn on your router and the computer.
Step 2: Configuring the router settings via the web-based utility
You can configure your router to use PPPoE or Automatic. The below section explains both the options.
Go to your Linksys router’s web-based utility page.
Click on the Setup tab.
From the Internet Connection type drop-down menu, choose the PPPoE or Automatic Configuration- DHCP option.
Now, based on your connection type, a respective window will open.
If you have selected the PPPoE option, you’ll be prompted to enter the name and password of your PPPoE connection.
Type the credentials in the given field.
Choose the Keep Alive option and set the time period.
Click the Save Settings button. Now, go to the Status tab.
Check the Login Status of your internet connection. If the status is disconnected, then click on the Connect button beside it.
If prompted, restart your Linksys router.
Automatic Configuration- DHCP settings
Choose the Automatic Configuration- DHCP settings option from the Internet Connection type drop-down menu.
Now, the Network Setup section will be displayed. In the third box of IP Address, type 2 and click on the Save Settings button.
Now, refresh your computer’s IP address by running the ipconfig /new command in the cmd window.
While accessing the router’s web-based page the next time, use the new IP address of your router.
Now, connect your Linksys router to the modem using an Ethernet cable.
