Linksys WRT54GS Router Setup - Quick Guide

  • Before starting, verify that you have a stable Internet connection from your DSL modem.
  • Next, turn off your modem and unplug the power adapter from it.
  • Unpack your router and connect it to your modem using the supplied Ethernet cable. This cable should be plugged into your router’s Internet port.
  • Connect your computer to the router using another Ethernet cable. This cable should be connected to your router’s  LAN  port.
  • Now, turn on your modem after connecting its power adapter to an electrical outlet. 
  • Wait for a few minutes and connect the router’s power adapter to a wall outlet.
  • Turn on the router and check if the Internet light is solid. If not, check the wired network connection between your router and the modem.
  • Now, proceed with the router configuration from its web-based setup page.
  • On your computer, exit all the running apps and launch the default browser.
  • Enter your router’s IP address in the URL  field and hit the strong> Enter  key to access the router setup page.
  • You can identify the IP address from your router’s label.
  • If prompted, enter ‘admin’ in the Username  and  Password  field and click  OK  to log in to your web GUI.
  • Click Setup  and select the  Basic Setup  submenu.
  • Choose your Internet connection type from one of these options.
  • Automatic Configuration- DHCP
  • Static IP
  • PPPoE
  • PPTP
  • If you have selected  PPPoE as your Internet connection type, enter the login credentials provided by your ISP.
  • To secure your Wi-Fi network, change the password.
  • After configuring the necessary settings, click on  Save Settings .
  • You have now seen the Linksys WRT54GS router setup.
