Linksys WRT600N is a dual-band wireless router that offers four different functions. It comes with a storage link that allows you to add a gigabit of storage space to your network. USB Port, Internet Port, Power port, and Ethernet ports are the four different ports available on this router. Along with these ports, you can have two buttons, namely Reset and Reserved. The security protocols employed on the Linksys WRT600N wireless router are WEP, WPA/Enterprise, WPA2/ Enterprise, and Radius (2.4 GHz & 5 GHz).Now, let’s see how to perform the Linksys WRT600N router setup for the first time.
Step 1: Physical setup
Make sure that your Linksys router is placed close to your computer.
Connect the router to your modem using an Ethernet cable.
Now, using another Ethernet cable, connect your computer to the router.
Make sure to connect the computer to one of the LAN ports on your router.
Now, turn on the router, modem, and computer.
Step 2: Web-based configuration
Based on your connection type, the web-based configuration process will vary. In the below section, you can find the instructions for PPPoE connection setting and Automatic Configuration – DHCP setting. Select the connection type of your desire and follow the instructions to complete the Linksys WRT600N router setup.
For PPPoE connection setting
On the computer that is connected to the Linksys router, open a web browser.
Now, using your router’s URL or IP address, access its web-based setup page.
In the Login dialog box, type the router’s default credentials in the given fields.
Once you are logged into the router’s web-based page, click on the Setup tab.
Navigate to the Internet Connection Type section.
Choose the PPPoE option from the drop-down menu.
Now, in the Username & Password fields below the Internet Connection Type drop-down menu, type the PPPoE credentials provided by your Internet Service Provider.
Click on the Save Settings button.
Now, go to the Status tab and check the Login Status. If the status shows disconnected, click on the Connect button beside it and restart your router.
Restarting the router
Turn off your Linksys router.
Unplug the router’s power adapter from the AC outlet.
After 30 seconds, reconnect the adapter to the router.
Turn on the router.
Make sure that the Power, Wi-Fi, and other LEDs are lit up on your router’s control panel.
For Automatic Configuration – DHCP Setting
Now, let’s see how to perform the Linksys WRT600N router setup via automatic configuration.
Make sure that you have completed the router’s physical setup by following the instructions given above.
Now, go to the Linksys WRT600N router’s web-based page.
Click on the Internet Setup tab.
Choose the Automatic Configuration -- DHCP option from the Internet Connection Type drop-down menu.
Go to the IP Address section and change the IP address correctly.
In the Subnet Mask field, type the following address 255.255.255.0 and click on the Save Settings button.
Now, open the CMD window on your computer to check the IP address of your router.
Type the ipconfig /release command.
Tap on the Enter button.
Now, the IP address of your router will be displayed on the screen. Note the new address and use it while accessing the router’s web-based setup page for the next time.
