The Netgear EX6400 Setup Wi-Fi mesh extender helps to boost your network range and speed. You can even use the extender as an access point. The extender bridges the gap between your wireless router and wireless device.
Functions of the Netgear EX6400 extender
The extender functions as a network client when it is connected to your router.
The extender functions as an access point for wireless devices.
To use the extender in extender mode and access point mode, you have to perform the initial setup as per the following step-by-step instructions.
Use the Netgear EX6400 extender in Extender mode
Step 1 - Extender placement
First, you have to set the Access Point/Extender switch on Netgear EX6400 setup to the Extender position.
Make sure to place both the extender and your wireless router in the same room.
Connect the extender’s power cable to an electrical outlet.
Wait until the Power LED on the extender turns green. If it does not, you have to press the Power button to turn on the extender.
Step 2 - Connect the extender to an existing wireless network
Method 1 - Using WPS
On the extender’s side panel, press the WPS button.
Now, press the WPS button on your router within 2 minutes.
If the connection is established successfully, the WPS LED on the extender turns green.
Now, you can connect your wireless device to a wireless network.
Method 2 - Using the Netgear Installation Assistant
Use an Ethernet cable for connecting the extender to your wireless device (computer).
After connecting the devices, launch a web browser and the Netgear EX6400 setup installation assistant appears automatically.
Continue with the prompts to establish a connection between the extender and your wireless network.
Step 3 - Relocating the extender
Once done, you can place the extender wherever you want. Keep it in mind that it should be within the range of your wireless router.
Look at the router’s Link LED to find the best spot to place the extender. If the Link LED does not light green or amber, you have to move the extender closer to the router.
2.Use the Netgear EX6400 extender in Access Point mode
Set the Access Point/Extender switch to the Access Point side.
Plug in the extender’s power cable to an electrical outlet. The extender turns on automatically. If it does not, press the Power button.
Establish a connection between your wireless device (computer) and the extender using an Ethernet cable.
